In this Lutheran Quarterly Book Talk, Mark Mattes interviews Jeff Silcock about his translation from German to English of Oswald Bayer’s book “Promissio”.<\/p>\n

In his book “Promissio”, Oswald Bayer traces Luther’s development from a monk to a reformer, noting along the way significant events that changed his beliefs to what we know today as Lutheran theology.<\/p>\n

Rev. Dr. Mark Mattes<\/strong><\/em> is Chair of the Theology and Philosophy Department at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, and has also served as Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Grand View.  Additionally, Mattes previously served parishes as a pastor in Gardner, Illinois, and Antigo, Wisconsin. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, and an M.Div from Luther Seminary. Mattes has authored Martin Luther\u2019s Theology of Beauty: A Reappraisal and The Role of Justification in Contemporary Theology, and has co-authored Imaging the Journey, co-translated Theology the Lutheran Way by Oswald Bayer, co-edited the collected papers of Gerhard Forde, A More Radical Gospel and The Preached God, and is an Associate Editor for Lutheran Quarterly.<\/p>\n

Dr. Jeff Silcock<\/strong><\/em> BA BTh STM ThD is an Emeritus Lecturer at the Australian Lutheran College. Jeff has also served there as a lecturer in Lutheran theology and ethics from 1996 until his retirement at the end of 2016. After retirement he continued to serve the Lutheran Church of Australia as the chair of the Commission on Theology and Inter-Church Relations (CTICR) until the end of 2018 at which time he also retired as co-chair of the Lutheran\u2013Uniting Church Dialogue. He continues to remain active writing and translating, particularly the works of Oswald Bayer.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
