2024 LQ Essay Prize and Invitation
From Lutheran Quarterly, Inc., for general release; August 7, 2024
The Lutheran Quarterly Essay Prize process had a good first year and we expect it to expand for 2025. As the editors prepare the winter issue that will complete volume 38 (2024), we can share the news and invite new interest. Of the dozen official submissions this past year, one essay was selected for publication and to receive the first annual prize of $5,000: John W. Hoyum’s “Robert Jenson and the Dogmatic Location of Culture,” Lutheran Quarterly 38 (2024): 30-50.
The peer reviewers called it “very interesting and erudite” and “well-constructed, nicely written, and offering a spot-on critique of Jenson.” Congratulations to Dr. Hoyum, the Pastor of Port Madison Lutheran Church, Bainbridge Island, Washington.
All submitted essays received detailed feedback from our standard double-blind peer review process, in hopes of helping each of these young authors.
Please encourage students and recent PhD graduates worldwide to consider a submission for the current (2025) cycle on any aspect of Lutheran history or theology. For further information about the prize, see the full description as also posted on the LQ website. Queries and submissions should be sent to the LQ editor: paul.rorem@ptsem.edu.
